Lions Club preparing book in honor of the 75th anniversary of the "Save An Eye" football game

In honor of the 75th anniversary of the annual "Save An Eye" All-Star Football Game, the Erie Lions Club announced it is preparing a coffee table book for release that will commemorate the game's history. The Lions Club is currently seeking information and memorabilia to be used in the book. Items will be scanned, copied or photographed and then returned. The club is also seeking interviews with former players and family members.

The Lions Club will host an open house on Saturday, January 5th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sight Center of Northwest Pennsylvania, 2545 W. 6th Street in Erie. Committee members will be on hand to copy or scan data, take photos and record game memories. If you are able to contribute, please plan on attending this Saturday.

The 75th anniversary of the game will be held on Friday, July 26th, 2013. The benefit game has been broadcast exclusively by WCTL's award-winning sportscasters since 2004. Proceeds from the event are used to provide eye care to needy children in the local area.

Enjoy hometown sports with another season of live high school football broadcasts on WCTL!

Thank you for joining us for another exciting season of “live” high school football with WCTL’s award-winning sportscast team.

WCTL has been serving the community with local coverage of high school football for over 20 years and our sports team has won several Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters "Excellence In Broadcasting" awards for the quality of our sportscasts. Our broadcast team this year included Adam Q. Frase, Coach Rob Glus, David Harms, Jon Pintea, and Ron Raymond and it was our privilege to provide live coverage of so many exciting games from schools throughout the area. We hope you enjoyed the broadcasts.

Games are provided as a service to the community and sponsored by area businessess. Please let the sponsors know you appreciate their investment in the sportscasts and in wholesome community activities.

We would like to congratulate the Cathedral Prep Ramblers on their PIAA AAA state championship. The Ramblers ended the season undefeated, triumphing over the strong running attack of the Archbishop Wood Vikings from the Philadelphia area, winning the championship game by a 24-14 score. Overcoming injuries to several key players, the Ramblers scored 24 unanswered points after falling behind 7-0 early and came up with several huge defensive plays late in the contest to preserve the victory. It was an outstanding effort indicative of the worthy state champions.
